Music review: Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Symphonic Oscars’ program covers classic film scores but could be more current

Whitney Kaufman was most effective after intermission, using an array of musical-theater expressions to sell the Oscar songs. She nailed the clever storytelling of “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas and delivered “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz with an understated purity that made the familiar tune fresh.
